Tips for surviving a pregnant Christmas

December 20, 2017

At the risk of being one of those pesky expert advice givers (see #3), here are some tips to help you survive and most importantly enjoy, a pregnant Aussie summer christmas season.

Drink loads of water

Baby it’s hot outside! And lapping the local Westfield in search of the perfect gift can certainly take it’s toll. Dehydration can be serious during pregnancy, particularly in the very late stages (hello early labour!) so keep those fluids up and take your water bottle of water along for the ride. more on dehydration during pregnancy.

Pre-plan a timeout spot

Upon arrival to your christmas day event (or even better if you’re hosting!) scout out a quiet, private spot to take a little time out.

Christmas is such a fun time! Relatives from all over all in the same room at the same same, children (and adults?) ferociously ripping open presents from under the tree, a few too many glasses of bubbly for someone.

Don’t be afraid to take a time out when you start to feel tired, or things feel a bit overwhelming.  You’re growing a baby, it’s hard work! Take some time to sit quiet and re-energise. And don’t forget your water bottle 😉

Beware of the experts

Start saving your sleep up now cause you won’t be getting any soon! What do you mean you’ll be putting the baby straight into the cot and not a bassinet?!

Taking your bump along to christmas parties and social gatherings will be so fun! Lap up the attention, pregnancy really is such a special time in your life and people are genuinely excited to share the journey with you. You should however beware of the experts lurking in the shadows. These people know it all, and likely through tried and tested methods, will bail you up and give you more tips and advice that you can possibly imagine (or care for!).

Advice will be in abundance, particularly after a glass of bubbly or two. If you do find yourself being overloaded with tips, politely excuse yourself from the conversation for yet another another trip to the bathroom #pregnantlife, and on return, find yourself a new group or person to chat with.
